Stevenage Borough
Ashley began his career at Brentford, where he spent 6 years and during that time, gained England Youth International caps. He joined Torquay United in the summer of 1993 then moved on to Exeter City, in the summer of 1996. He became the first player to leave Exeter under the Bosman ruling when he transferred to Leyton Orient in the summer of 1999. He made over 400 league and cup appearances during his football league career.
After leaving Leyton Orient he went to Bohemians in Dublin, Ireland where he won the league and qualified for the Champions League.
He returned to England and spent two seasons at Woking F.C before a short spell with Hornchurch
He then went on to Grays Athletic, where he enjoyed three successful years winning the F.A. Trophy twice in two consecutive years and winning the league to be promoted to Nationwide Conference. He left Grays Athletic in the summer of 2007 , signed for Blue Square Premier Crawley Town for the 2007/2008 season , in July 2008 he become the 1st signing of new Stevenage Borough manager Graham Westly
